I have been on the Keto diet for about a week now and so far I have lost 5 pounds! I had a small cheat on our date night this weekend but other than that I have found it pretty easy to stick to. Honestly, cheese is my favorite food so I can’t complain too much when I can still eat cheese!
I wanted to share a yummy and super customizable (whether you’re on Keto or not!) green smoothie recipe with y’all. I love to have a green smoothie a couple times a week (usually for breakfast) but especially if I feel like my eating has been off I might do a green smoothie for dinner to help get me back on track.
If you are doing Keto you want to make sure to find a Keto approved protein powder. I have recently started using Collagen Peptides Protein which is zero carbs or sugar so totally Keto friendly. I like this one from Zhou Nutrition. The collagen helps keep you full longer and suppress appetite to avoid cravings, plus it helps you have gorgeous skin, hair, nails, and more!
The Collagen is not super high in protein (10g per serving) and it’s unflavored (one of my favorite things about it), so I like to combine it with a vanilla-flavored protein powder to keep you full longer and help you get a little more protein. I use this one from Orgain which is a plant-based protein powder with only 4g of net carbs. If you want to keep your protein amount down you could just do half a scoop.
Now for the smoothie basics:
-1-2 cups liquid (I use unsweetened Vanilla almond milk)
-Handful of greens (I use baby spinach)
-Fat source (I do 1-2 tbsp MCT oil, OR 1/4-1/2 avocado, you can also add a tbso)
-Fiber source (I do 1 tbsp chia seeds, you could also do flax seeds)
-Protein (see above, I like to use collagen and plant protein or sometimes one or the other)
-Fruit (IF you are not on keto and like to add a little sweetness you could add your fruit of choice)
-Ice (I do about a cup of ice)
Blend it all up and you’ll have a delicious and super-filling smoothie that will keep you full for hours! Customize as you’d like and enjoy!
