The Hubby’s SURPRISE 30th Bday Trip Recap | Golden Nugget Lake Charles

Dusty absolutely loves surprises and believe it or not, I actually pulled off surprising him for his 30th Birthday with a weekend away to the Golden Nugget Lake Charles Resort in Louisiana! I even scheduled a PTO day for him without him knowing. I might be a tad bit proud it all worked out. If you ever get the opportunity to surprise your spouse or significant other with a trip or something similar, DO IT! It is SO worth the memories and the quality time and they will appreciate you so much for taking the time to organize something so special for them.

On a semi-related note, we try to take 1 or 2 trips a year away from the kids and it is SO necessary to keep that spark alive and have time to focus only on each other and not the little ones who are constantly needing your every bit of attention at home. I highly recommend everyone to do the same! Even if you can’t afford a trip, ask a friend or family member to keep the kids for a night or two and plan a fun staycation!

Back to the Golden Nugget…We had been to the original Golden Nugget on the Old Las Vegas Strip which is always fun but quite a bit older. However, The Golden Nugget in Lake Charles is new and modern and clean and fresh and beautiful!! Can you tell we loved it?? I am not kidding y’all, I HIGHLY recommend it for a fun weekend getaway especially if you want to go somewhere you can gamble that is within driving distance of Texas.

The resort had an INCREDIBLE pool with a huge swim up bar, pool side cafe, lazy river, water slides, hot tubs, private cabanas and beach beds, and pool-side blackjack tables! What more could you possibly want? Props to the birthday boy for being a good sport and letting me snag this boomerang for y’all:

The food and drink options were endless. The resort had over 10 restaurants including it’s own Starbucks! Everything from Mexican food, to a beachside burger shack, to Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse. I loved the fact that we arrived on Friday, did the FREE valet parking option, and did not have to get our car again until we checked out on Sunday. They even had shuttles to take you to a nearby resort if you wanted a change of scenery!

If you’re a fan of gambling you will love the casino. It was super clean with a HUGE selection of tables and machines. And if you’re a fan of slots, I’ve never seen so many slot machines in my life! Not saying we won a ton of money or anything, haha, but it was still super fun. Our favorite spot was the pool-side blackjack tables.

A few other things worth highlighting: The resort has it’s own man-made sandy beach along the lake as well as plenty of shops if you feel like going shopping. Oh and how could I forget, they also have an incredible Spa. So basically there is an endless list of things to do, food to eat, and places to relax.

We were super impressed with the room. It was clean and nicely decorated with a super spacious bathroom, comfy bed, and amazing views.

Long story short: We will most definitely be back, hopefully sooner rather than later! Here’s to more trips and less work! Cheers Friends.
