Just a few weeks ago we had the opportunity to escape to Port Aransas with the kiddos for a fun weekend away before Fall hit! We stayed at the Port Royal Ocean Resort and Conference Center and we were absolutely blown away. Full weekend recap coming atcha now!
When you first pull into Port Royal you will be awe struck by the beautiful landscape. The grounds are meticulously manicured and you are surrounded by greenery and beauty everywhere you look! Port Royal was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey back in 2017 and while most of the town has already rebuilt, sadly Port Royal has yet to finish the renovation on some aspects of the resort (like the lobby, ballroom and restaurant) because of a litigation situation with their insurance company. However, you would never guess if you didn’t know the aspects of the resort that are missing. Port Royal has an incredible story and they actually published their own book detailing their journey through the storm and the first year of recovery efforts. They have come together as a community and used some amazingly creative solutions to make sure the resort is up and running and in tip-top shape.
They have set up a very nice temporary restaurant (Restaurant 361) and lobby to serve the guests every need and they even have a food truck stationed on site to serve food during the restaurant downtimes. Restaurant 361 even serves an amazing Sunday brunch that you definitely don’t want to miss!
One of my favorite parts about the resort was the app they have where you can order your food and have it delivered to your room or even the pool! As a family with young kids, we loved that we never had to leave the resort if we didn’t want to. The restaurant served breakfast lunch and dinner and the bar by the pool had delicious drink options!
Speaking of pools, did you know Port Royal has the largest resort pool in all of Texas? It is nothing short of incredible and consists of some amazing amenities that would be hard to find all in one place anywhere else! The pool has two large water slides as well as two smaller water slides for riders under 48”.
They have a swim up bar and swim up frozen station (with ice cream for the kids!), a heated lap pool, kiddie pool, and even a splash pad. During their renovation after the hurricane, they added 14 poolside cabanas that are available to rent equipped with premium furniture, cable televisions and ceiling fans.
Not to mention the fun inflatable obstacle course and pool volleyball court. When it comes to the pool oasis, the opportunities for fun are endless.
When we were ready to feel the sand beneath our toes we just headed across the short 100 yard boardwalk on the back of the resort that leads directly to the beach! Port Royal Ocean Resort sits along a 17 mile stretch of pristine beach where we set up camp and spent the day making sand castles and searching for sea shells. Not a sand castle expert? No worries, the resort even provides FREE sand castle lessons from “THE Port Aransas Sand Castle Guy” himself every Saturday afternoon!
During Peak season the activities list is impressive. Whether you want to watch a Dive-In movie, take a yoga or aqua Zumba class, sand castle lesson, or just enjoy some live music in the evening, Port Royal has you covered.
After a day full of fun we escaped to our cozy condo for a relaxing evening. All of the condos have exceptional views. The two bedroom, two bath condo suite that we stayed in had a view of both the pool and the beach and an incredibly spacious patio. Whether you are in a two or three bedroom condo, each suite has a living area, fully stocked kitchen, dining area, and full sized laundry amenities (so perfect for traveling with a family!)
My girls had the absolute time of their life and I am so thankful for this opportunity to make some incredible memories together as a family at the beach. Port Royal, we will most definitely be back and we are already counting down the days until our next beach escape!
A HUGE thank you to Port Royal Ocean Resort for hosting us for an unforgettable weekend away with our family. All opinions are 100% my own!
